understanding the moon phases 🌕
-
Each moon phase carries its own energy, guiding your tarot readings, spellwork, and meditations.
🌑New Moon - The sky is dark, symbolizing new beginnings. Set intentions and plant the seeds for what you wish to grow.
🌓First Quarter Moon - The moon starts to grow, bringing energy for action and momentum. Take steps toward your goals and embrace growth.
🌕Full Moon - The full moon shines in all her glory. A time for celebration, gratitude, and illumination. Pause and bask in her light.
🌗Third Quarter Moon - The moon begins to wane, encouraging reflection and release. Let go of what no longer serves you and rest.
-
Not necessarily.
The moon can provide a shared rhythm, but your experience of each phase is personal. You may connect with certain phases differently depending on what is happening in your own life.
Think of the moon as a guide rather than a set of rules.
-
The four primary phases each last roughly one week, creating a lunar cycle of about 29.5 days.
You’ll get an email reminder when a new phase begins to help you connect with its energy.
-
🌑 New Moon — The Moon appears completely or almost completely dark.
🌓 First Quarter — Half of the Moon appears illuminated, and the illuminated portion continues to grow.
🌕 Full Moon — The Moon appears fully illuminated.
🌗 Third Quarter — Half of the Moon appears illuminated, and the illuminated portion continues to decrease.Want to see the phases visually? Take a look at our free Moon Phase Vision Board.
aligning with your cycle🌹
-
Yes. Some people choose to use the moon phases as a framework for understanding and reflecting on the different phases of their menstrual cycle.
The four main moon phases can be paired with the four phases of the menstrual cycle as a way to explore themes of rest, growth, action, reflection, and release. However, your menstrual cycle does not need to match the moon perfectly for you to work with this framework.
Your body has its own rhythm, and your cycle may change from month to month. The moon can simply serve as a guide for helping you notice and honor where you are in your own cycle.
-
A common way to align the menstrual cycle with the moon is:
🌑 New Moon → Menstruation — rest, reflection, and going inward
🌓 First Quarter → Follicular Phase — growth, building energy, and new beginnings
🌕 Full Moon → Ovulation — outward energy, connection, and expression
🌗 Third Quarter → Luteal Phase — reflection, release, and slowing downThis is a framework rather than a rule. Your cycle may not follow this pattern, and that's completely okay. The purpose is to use these phases as a way to become more aware of your body's changing needs and energy.
-
That's completely okay. Your menstrual cycle does not have to synchronize with the moon for you to practice cyclical living.
The moon is a guide, not a schedule for your body. If your period falls during a different moon phase, you can simply honor the phase of your cycle you're actually experiencing while using the moon as a separate rhythm to check in with.
-
You can still practice cyclical living and work with the moon.
The moon's cycle is available to everyone, regardless of whether you menstruate. You can use its phases as a recurring rhythm for moving through periods of beginning, growth, action, celebration, reflection, release, and rest.
You don't need a menstrual cycle to connect with the moon or benefit from having a rhythm to return to each month.
working with tarot🔮
-
Tarot is a symbolic tool that can be used for reflection, intuition, and exploring different perspectives. Each card carries its own imagery, symbolism, and themes, which can act as a mirror for your inner world.
At Charlie's Moon Readings, we use tarot as a way to pause, ask questions, and listen to what resonates with you.
-
Each moon phase offers a curated collection of tarot readings aligned with the energy of that phase. These readings are designed to awaken your intuition, inviting you to tune in and discover the message that is meant for you.
Each reading is meant to provide guidance, comfort, insight, and confirmation. When a message resonates, you may choose to see it as a sign from your spiritual team or as an invitation to listen more closely to your intuition.
-
When choosing a reading, tune in to the expansive feeling in your body rather than which one your mind thinks you “should” pick. Notice the subtle pull, curiosity, or energy that draws you toward one reading over another.
Your intuition is your guide. The more you practice listening to it, the easier it can become to recognize what feels right for you.
-
There isn't a wrong reading.
If a message doesn't fully resonate with you, that's okay. Take what speaks to you and leave the rest behind - you are never bound to a reading.
If you feel drawn to choose another reading, trust that feeling. Take a moment to pause, breathe, clear your space, and ground yourself before following your intuition toward something else.
Your intuition is your guide, and learning to listen to it takes practice. Remember, your free will always comes first.
working with Spellwork📜
-
At Charlie's Moon Readings, spellwork is a way of putting your intentions into words and creating a meaningful practice around them.
Rather than being something you need to perform perfectly, your spell can be as simple as a personal affirmation, intention, or ritual that reflects what you want to focus on during a particular moon phase.
-
Each moon phase offers a different opportunity for intention and reflection.
Your journal prompts help you explore the themes of the current phase, which you can then use to create a personal spell, affirmation, or intention.
-
Spells are most powerful when they are centered on your own growth, healing, and empowerment. The more personal your intention is, the more meaning and energy you can bring to the practice.
Use your journal to explore what you truly want to call into your life, and record your spells and reflections over time. Looking back on them can become a valuable tool for recognizing your growth, patterns, and personal transformation.
Your spell doesn't need to be complicated - what matters most is the intention you bring to it.
Meditations 🧘🏼♀️
-
Each meditation is designed around the theme of its corresponding moon phase, helping you slow down, tune in, and connect more deeply with yourself.
Because each phase has a different focus, the meditations are intentionally different - guiding you through intention, growth, reflection, celebration, or release in a way that feels supportive.
-
The meditations are designed to follow your tarot readings and spellwork, giving you space to slow down, ground yourself, and reflect on what came up during your reading and spellwork.
However, there is no required order. You can return to a meditation whenever you feel drawn to it.
-
Our meditations were created by our talented friend Jewelia Orlick in collaboration with Charlie's Moon Readings.
While these meditations were specifically created for CMR, Jewelia also offers a range of guided meditations through her own work.

-
Yes. Cyclical living isn't about opting out of modern life.
You can still work, make plans, pursue goals, be productive, and live your normal life. The practice simply encourages you to recognize that you don't have to approach every day with the same energy or expectations.

our ritual✨
-
Our ritual follows the current moon phase and brings together several practices designed to help you pause and reconnect with yourself.
You'll move through tarot for reflection, spellwork for intention and affirmation, and meditation for grounding and presence.
The practices work together to create a recurring moment in your life to slow down, check in, and move intentionally into the next phase.
-
Each part of the ritual offers something different.
Tarot gives you something to reflect on.
Spellwork helps you put your intentions into words.
Meditation gives you space to slow down and connect with the present moment.Together, they create a practice that moves beyond simply thinking about where you are and gives you space to actually experience it.
-
The four main moon phases give us a natural guide for moving through different stages of a cycle - growing, taking action, pausing, reflecting, and resting. By returning to these phases each month, we have a recurring opportunity to practice honoring each of these parts of life rather than constantly pushing forward.
The moon is also something we can all connect to, no matter where we are or what our individual circumstances look like. Its cycle is always there to return to, giving us a shared and accessible way to bring more intention and rhythm into our lives.
-
No.
The ritual is a guide, not a checklist. You can move through each part at your own pace and spend more time with whatever feels meaningful to you.
There is no perfect way to practice cyclical living.
-
Not every reading will resonate, and that's okay.
Think of each reading as an invitation to reflect rather than something you need to accept as absolute truth. Take what speaks to you and leave what doesn't.
Your intuition and personal experience are always part of the process.
-
There is no set amount of time you need to spend with a ritual.
Some days you may have time to sit with the full experience, while other days you may only have a few quiet minutes.
The goal isn't to add another obligation to your day. It's to create intentional space for yourself in whatever way works for you.
Benefits of the Practice🏆
-
Cyclical living encourages you to recognize that you don't have to operate at the same pace all the time.
It creates space for action and rest, growth and reflection, beginnings and endings. Over time, this can help you become more aware of your needs, emotions, patterns, desires, and energy.
-
A regular ritual gives you a recurring reason to pause and check in with yourself.
Instead of moving from one thing to the next without stopping, you create intentional moments throughout the month to reflect on where you've been, where you are, and where you want to go.
-
When you regularly make space to reflect, you begin to notice your thoughts, feelings, desires, habits, and patterns more clearly.
Tarot, journaling, meditation, and ritual each give you different ways to explore what's happening within you.
-
To us, coming home to yourself means reconnecting with who you are beneath the expectations, routines, and noise of everyday life.
It's not about becoming a different person or reaching some perfect version of yourself. It's about creating space to listen to yourself, understand yourself, and experience a life that’s true to you.
-
Cyclical living challenges the idea that every day needs to be equally productive.
There are times to begin, build, act, and create, and there are times to reflect, release, slow down, and rest.
Making space for both allows you to work with your changing energy rather than expecting yourself to always be in the same state.
